The Lake Waconia Band Festival is held each year on the third Saturday of June. This "bands only" parade competition is a highlight of the summer marching season in central Minnesota. The 2008 event will present many of Minnesota's greatest bands on parade beginning at 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 21. The Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
Trophies and prize money are awarded to the top bands in three classes. Additional trophies are awarded for the top Wind Section, Color Guard and Drum Line in each class, plus the overall People's Choice and Grand Champion.
The parade travels along Main Street in downtown Waconia with breathtaking views of beautiful Lake Waconia. Judging takes place near the intersection of Main Street and Olive Street. The city is located 25 miles southwest of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.
This year's parade is expected to be the best one yet, as we are celebrating our 10th Anniversary of holding this event! Park Center will again return to defend it's 8 STRAIGHT titles, while this year's festival welcomes back Alexandria and Milaca . . . who return after long absences from the festival. Waconia also welcomes Bemidji for the first time to the festival! And with ALL THREE defending class champions returning, this figures to be the most fierce competition the Lake Waconia Band Festival has seen yet! Don't miss it!
